I am trying to do a one take recording for my band, but we have one guitar and one bass player, so I am not too sure if the rear inputs is able take the instruments. You’ll want to boost the LS56 to about 4 , set it LINE input, and then turn up the gain on your external pre until you see the signal level you want. Yes, if your additional preamp has those digital outs, then you can totally hook them up this way. And yes, most interfaces do this padding down for the LINE ins of the combo jacks or analog inputs.
The Pro MPA II can be configured for dual mono or stereo operation with selectable mid/side mic support, summing the adjacent channel, to decode left/right signals. The new ART ProMPA II is the next generation in affordable high performance microphone preamp technology. Each microphone input circuit, with selectable 48v phantom power, features variable input impedance which can radically vary the overall performance of any high quality dynamic or ribbon microphone. The ProMPA II can be configured for dual mono or stereo operation with selectable mid/side mic support, summing the adjacent channel, to decode left/right signals.
- Learn about a variety of affordable models that competently model some of the best sounding preamps of all time.
- I got this along with ART mpl stereo compressor for recording stereo instrruments, ect, but I end up using this setup more than expected.
- I still plan to purchase higher quality preamps some day, but for the moment, this twin channel preamp will do just fine!
- Really I have nothing to say but good things about it.
Most interface preamps are very clean and uncolored. I’m a voiceover with my own purpose built https://philtattooranch.com/category/conventions studio. I’m using a Microtech Gefell MT71S compressor mic which requires phantom power. My PC is totally silent, no fan, no disc rotation, so it’s very quiet in the room.. I do a lot of referencing and I’m completely baffled at how the bass & guitar sound on professional mixes compared to mines. That’s the plan so far but I’ve been toying with the idea of having a purely dedicated, high end converter & a pre-amp.
Art Pro Mpa Ii Tube Mic Preamp
First as others have said the knobs begin to slip over time. The pots begin to crackle excessively after just a few months. But the thing I cannot abide is the VU meter lights flicker then burn out.
Art Digital Mpa Ii
I bought this unit to use on a few scratch demos. It has a warm, tube sound that is as good as my other $2500 preamps. It is a little finicky when driving the tube … It is OK to overdrive the tube a little to get that growly sound but to much and it distorts. This degree of drive would probably only be used on certain instruments, or maybe as an obvious effect on some pop and urban vocal styles. The original Pro MPA 2 channel tube preamp.
Product Overview
The VLA has a simple but functional front panel. The bypass is a little suspect, seems to be a little harsh, but if I wanted to bypass I would eliminate the VLA and go “DI” into my DP-32. I’n not wealthy but I came into a little extra money and have replaced my non-tubes with tubes. Like most compressors that do there job, you see see there is a lot less clipping…
Bass sound obtained from the Art is in every aspect comparable with the sound of Avalon U5 unit except mentioned noise-signal ratio. My guitar modeling unit – eleven rack, that I use also as an audio interface has only one microphone preamp channel which is not so good. The SPL Gold Mike costs only slightly more than the Pro MPA2 and is still top of my favourites list for affordable tube preamps, though it doesn’t have as many features as the Pro MPA2. Specifically, there’s no variable impedance and no M/S decoding.
Ideally you want a TRS cable because it carries a balanced signal more acceptable for line level sources. Ideally, unity gain should be +4dBu, or 0dBFS , but as we know, this is not always the case. The ever famous SSL had Unity gain at -6dBv, so line level was actually applying gain, but that was only for the channel section. The monitoring section was totally different.
